General scope and sequence

Fall Semester : 

Unit 1: Line & Shape  -  Anchor Works: Aboriginal Art. Paul Klee. Keith Haring. Abstract designs. Range of Media.

• Outcome: 3 roughs after Anchor Artists. 1 Final version Choice of White media on Black paper or Black Media on White paper.

Unit 2: Value & Form - Anchor Works: Graphite Renderings, Adonna Khare, . Skillset: Pencil work, Graphite techniques value gradations, grid enlargements. 

• Outcome: Several options; Grid Enlargement Graphite Renderings, Transformations, Still lifes, Trompe l' oeil.

Unit 3: Form  - Anchor Works: Roberto Benavidez, Elsa Mora, Sher Christopher. Paper Sculptures. Paper Crafting. Pattern Making, Balance.

• Outcome: Paper Robots that are well balanced and can free stand

Unit 4: Color Theory -  Anchor Works: Josef Albers, Benjamin Lowder. Stephanie Smith. Color Theory exercises. 

• Outcome: Color Theory Abstract Mandala

Spring Semester: 

Unit 5: Dry Media Concepts - Anchor Works:  . 1 and 2 point perspective. City Scapes. Floating Space Ships. Letter Forms. Color Pencil Techniques; Pastel Techniques. Marker Techniques

• Outcome: Surrealistic Rooms;  Sci-Fi City Scapes, Aerial Views, Worms-eye view.

Unit 6: Wet Media Concepts - Anchor Works:  Carla Sonheim. Modigliani  Painted Paper Collages,  Mixed-Media techniques. 

• Outcome: Water Color Landscapes; Oil Pastel Depth of Field illustrations

Unit 7: Portraiture  - Proportions of the human face. 

• Outcome: Observational Self Portrait on toned paper with white, black and rust charcoal

Unit 8: Curating Presentations - Anchor Artists:  Curators, Portfolios. Local Artists. 

• Outcome: Creation of digital Portfolio for presentation in class. End of year showcase of work - art show.
