TEAM

A co-taught or TEAM taught, 9th grade course with emphasis on Technology, Arts and Media. This course was developed to provide our 9th graders with a broader sense of the Arts through traditional , digital and mixed media opportunities.

Fall Semester :

Unit 1: Line & Shape - Anchor Works: Alexander Calder, Sol Lewit, Jun Kaneko

Outcomes: 1) Line art Wire Figures, Line Art after Sol Lewit 2) Line work in ceramics after Jun Kaneko.

Unit 2: Form - Anchor Artists, Concepts, Movements or Exhibitions: Op Art, Positive Negative Space, Patterns, MC Escher

Outcomes: 1) Digital Tesselations, Digital Counter Change designs. 2) Traditional tessellations with cut paper and colored pencil repeats.

Unit 3: Form - Anchor Works: Roberto Benavidez, James Morrison. Paper Mache techniques. Balance.

Outcomes:

Unit 4: Color Theory - Anchor Works: Josef Albers, Benjamin Lowder. Collage and Mosaic techniques with paper.

Outcomes: 1) Photos arranged in grid of Complementary Color Scheme Found Objects found in nature. 2) Grid enlarged Counter Change Designs painted in Split-Complementary Color Scheme using tape and tempera .

Spring Semester:

Unit 5: Making Meaning - Anchor Concepts: Art Components, Composition and Layout, Narratives, Story Telling, Symbolic Message Making.

Outcome: 1) tissue paper and cut paper collages that represent one Art Element, one Design Principle and an Emotion chosen from a bag.
Outcome: 2) 5 panel narrative of a Fairy Tale told symbolically with cut paper shapes.

Unit 6: Portraiture - Anchor Concepts: Self-Portraiture, Mixed Media, Digital Media.

Outcome: 1) Mixed Media Self portrait, Grid Enlarged from photo in Color Pencil, Pointilism w/ ink and Water Color.
Outcome: 2) Photoshop Expressive Self Portrait. Same photograph express emotional aspects of individual using Photoshop layer Styles.

Unit 7: Light Up Greeting Cards - Anchor Concepts: Paper Circuitry, Paper Craft
