Fall Semester :

Key assignments: Line Fields, Black&White squares, Road Symbol, Map project, Expressive Type. animated WordPlay-Drawing

Unit 1: Line Synectics, Energy Fields - Anchor Works: Design Synectics- Nicholas Roukes; Outcome: examination of two different abstract line/shapes interacting in the same visual space. Analyzing the tension and relationships of objects (line, shapes) on the plane. Additional quick studies to interact with and develop 'energy' patterns on the page.

Unit 2: Shapes & Symbols - Anchor Works: Road Signs. Outcome: Road Signs for Campus Life, Map Projects

Unit 3: Psychology of Color - Anchor works: Word Play, Posters, Symbolism with color.

Unit 4: Word Play - Anchor Works: Typographic Portraits, Conveying emotion through type. Word Puns

Spring Semester:

Key assignments: Creative Type Poster(s), Marketing Campaign, includes: Logo, Animated Logo, Business Card, Advertisement, Social Media, Web Page. School Event Poster. Social Issue Poster. Self Portrait. Magazine Layout, Book Cover Design, Motion Graphics and a Digital Personal Portfolio.

Unit 5: Adv. Typography work. Letter Forms - Anchor Resources: Wim Crouwel, Jonathan Hoefler, Helvetica: The Movie, Outcome: Continuing work with type for layout designs and illustrations. Outcome: Posters for school plays or events, , Word illustrations.

Unit 6 & 7: - Marketing Campaign - Anchor Resources: Paula Scher, Saul Bass, Milton Glaser and more. Outcome; Branding for a fictitious Company of students choice (with guidance), to include: Logo, Business Card, Email Template, Website (design layout), Advertisement, Logo brand Application on packaging, animated logo or title treatment and presentation digital booklet.

Unit 8: Portraits, Self Portraits, or Art after a particular Artist or Personal Choice art: Anchor Works: Editorial and Typographical Illustrations. Considerations: Layout, Composition, Illustration and Typography. Outcome: Various

Unit 9: Curating Presentations - Anchor work: Magazines, Blogs, Animations - etc. Methods to showcase a personal portfolio. Outcome: Personal Portfolio and end of year Presentation and/or Showcase.
